Additional Learning Support
At Marsden Road Public School (MRPS), we use our allocations of learning and support resources to personalise the learning for the individual needs of our students. Teaching and learning can be adjusted in many ways, based on every student's unique needs, to enable students with disability and additional learning and support needs to enjoy the same opportunities and choices in their education as their peers.
Support That Fits Your Child's Needs
Marsden Road Public School works with students, parents and carers, teachers and other professionals to identify students who need additional support – at any stage of a student's school life.
Additional learning support can include:
- teachers making adjustments in the classroom, such as extra guidance, simpler content or different task expectations during lessons, to meet students' individual learning needs, including English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) students
- specialist support programs for students newly arrived to Australia
- providing targeted opportunities to help high potential and gifted students further their knowledge and skills
-
small group withdrawal to provide targeted literacy and numeracy support
-
termly review where teachers update the student planned support
-
changes to the classrooms:
- schoolwide, strong, clear routines and expectations
- accessible classrooms
- assistive technology
- instructional resources
-
assessment adjustments are implemented to meet specific needs of students with academic, behavioural or physical individual education plans
We know when a student needs support because clear systems are in place to track learning and wellbeing.
- Teachers know their students well and are quick to notice changes in learning or behaviour.
- Assessment results and learning progress are regularly reviewed and used to inform teaching and support.
- Teachers work closely with parents and carers when concerns or questions arise.
Adjustments are planned and reviewed regularly. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us
