Opening Doors to Wider Experiences

Our students are encouraged to take part in zone, regional and state opportunities that broaden their experiences and support them to grow and excel.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In Our Classrooms

At Marsden Road Public School, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is embedded in everyday practice. We recognise that many students demonstrate high potential, and we are committed to developing this into strong achievement and personal growth.

Teachers identify students’ learning needs through ongoing assessment and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend learners. We provide a range of learning pathways, including enrichment and extension opportunities, to ensure students are supported at the appropriate level.

Students use feedback, clear learning goals and assessment to understand their progress and next steps. Our teachers engage in ongoing professional learning to meet the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners.

Across Our School

At Marsden Road Public School, we recognise that every student is unique, and we offer flexible and diverse opportunities for students to develop their interests and strengths.

Students extend their talents through debating, public speaking, and a range of academic and sporting competitions. Creative talents are celebrated through our school concert, Carols evening, visual arts community displays, music ensembles, choir, and multiple dance groups, including Korean Dance.

Leadership opportunities are developed through the SRC, Student Tutor Program, and student leadership teams.

Students are supported through a wide range of extracurricular opportunities, including environmental , art and writing clubs.

For students with sporting ability, opportunities include PSSA zone carnivals, selection for Liverpool Zone teams, and pathways through to Sydney South West and NSW PSSA representation.

Across NSW

Our students participate in a wide range of state-wide programs designed to extend learning and enrich student potential. These include opportunities such as the Premier’s Debating Competition, Premier’s Spelling Bee and Premier’s Multicultural Public Speaking Competition.

State-wide and NSW Department of Education support is available for our high potential and gifted students, and we actively assist with entries, preparation and reflection so that each experience meaningfully contributes to student learning and growth.
